From a place of asylum in times of need- to a popular destination
Deep in the Spreewald lays one of the oldest excursion restaurants
– the Wotschofska. The name originates from the Wendish word
“wotso” (alder) and means in a way, Alder Island.
It is a floodwater resistant elevation in the inner
Spreewald.
Oftentimes this isolated place was an asylum for people in
need.
The hostile army never reached this place.

In 1929, the first visitor reached the forest hotel Wotschofska by car. This was only possible because of the big ice crust on the river.
